"Liquid can escape from a pipe, whether it is water from a storage tank, from the main water supply or oil from an oil tank."

Burst Pipe

What is it?

This relates to the escape of water or other substances from pipes within the property, usually caused by the pipe cracking or bursting and causing damage as a direct result.

What it covers

Burst Pipe cover protects against the escape of liquid from a pipe, whether it is water from a storage tank, from the main water supply or oil from a tank.

It does not relate to water entering the house from an external source. For example if a mains pipe outside the premises bursts this is considered ‘flood damage’ and is covered by a Flood policy. If roof tiles are blown off and rain water enters the house and causes damage, this is ‘storm damage’ and covered by Storm and Tempest insurance.

A burst pipe policy does not cover the consequential losses incurred as a result of any interruption caused to your business. Only by taking out business interruption cover can you safeguard against these potentially enormous losses.

What having Burst Pipe cover means to you

Burst pipe cover provides you with the important peace of mind in knowing that you will be financially protected from a burst pipe in winter. While it’s impossible to prevent the emotional pain of losing items of sentimental value, the policy will help protect you from financial losses that occur.
